Contact us if you have any questions about your stay
During periods of heavy rain, the bridge might not be driveable, and access to the cabin can be limited to crossing our swingbridge on foot (see photo), followed by a short walk through a muddy paddock and up the driveway.
If you have a taste for adventure, you'll enjoy the experience. But if you prefer to keep your feet on the ground, and you're planning to stay during winter or if the weather is wet at the time, contact us in advance to check the conditions.
You will not be charged for cancellations if weather conditions prohibit driving accross the bridge.
Enjoy the old fashioned method of communication - talking to people. Leave the office behind, and relax and enjoy nature.
Cellphones work intermittently. However, quality cellphone reception is available close by, and a landline is available in the homestead (not the cabin) for urgent calls.
Internet access is available at the main homestead for limited use, such as checking emails.
Smoking is not permitted in the cabin. Smoke alarms are in use.
We are environmentally conscious, and the cabin is equipped with a modern Lewis Gray toilet. This looks and feels much the same as a regular toilet, but operates slightly differently.
Standard check-in times are 10am for check-out, and 1pm for check-in. If no guests are expected on the day of check-out, our timings are flexible. Please aim to arrive during day-light hours.
Full cash payment is required on arrival. We do not have card facilities on the premises, so please ensure you bring cash. For stays longer than two nights, talk to us about arranging payment by bank transfer.
How to get here
We are located 50 minutes drive from Gisborne, 30 minutes from Wairoa and around 2.5 hours from Napier.
Our address is 3897 SH2/Pacific Coast Highway, Morere. Look out for our small black & white sign at the top of the driveway, which is surrounded by native bush and gum trees.
If you are driving from Gisborne , we are on the right, approx. 1km from the Morere Hotsprings, about 10 meters past Possum Bend Road (a small metal road on the right).
If you are driving from Wairoa/Napier, we are the first driveway on your left past the 'Morere' and the '80km' signs. If you reach Possum Bend Road, you will have missed the driveway, and will need to turn around.
If you are arriving by bus, you will need to get off at Morere, and the bus will stop at the Morere Tearooms. The bus stop is a 15 minutes walk, but may be difficult if you have heavy luggage. Please check availability in advance to see if someone is available for pick-up/drop-off at the bus stop.
